Grade 5 Science Fair

On Friday, December 4th, students showed off their understanding of how the world works by hosting a science fair. Students formulated a testable question and designed an experiment to test their hypothesis. Student questions focused on the changing states of matter and how these changes impact society.

Here is a short video of some students explaining their work.

The sounds of a music classroom

What does a typical music classroom sound like?
Here's a quick audio tour of the 5A students preparing for Carol Night. In addition to learning a Christmas song in Tagalog to connect with our sister school in Naga City, Philippines, the girls are learning how to sing 'Silent Night' in the many languages represented in the classroom. Are YOU ready to sing with the Grade 5 girls?

Peace & Conflict

Grade 5 News and Update

Grade 5 students are finishing up their unit on Peace and Conflict and ready to move onto an inquiry into matter.  Specifically, students will be investigating how society takes advantage of the properties of matter.  This will be a hands on unit with a lot of investigations into reversible and irreversible changes.

In addition, student will begin a new unit on the relationship between addition and subtraction and the relationship between multiplication and division.  Students will explore various mental methods of computation as well as multiple paper and pencil algorithms.  Rather than simply getting the right answer, student will look to explain how and why different methods work.

Festival of Nations

Thank you to everyone for a successful Festival of Nations. We had a wonderful time! Grade 5 gave a fantastic performance. The girls had fun running their Milking the Cow booth and earning 800 tickets from participates. Thank you for managing the other booths in the festival. I understand some missed out on watching their daughter's performance and booths. Please view the videos and photos below.
